Maria thanked the doctors, nurses and medical staff and told them that they are true heroes. She also told them that they are loved by many people. Maria graduated from Penn State University. She was a Miss America judge at a Miss America preliminary pageant in 2017 in York, PA. In 2019, she received a royal letter from Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan of Buckingham Palace. She reaches out to the sick, disabled, elderly and homeless through a group she founded called the Angels of Mercy. This was also her platform during her reign as Ms. Pennsylvania in 2004. She gives stuffed animals and hugs to the sick, disabled, and elderly at facilities to spread love and brighten their days no matter their race, nationality, creed or skin color.
