Norwich, Norfolk Sep 21, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - Released today, Morley Hall Rules is a personal account of life at Morley Hall, a boarding school run by the Norfolk County Council Education Department in the 1980s. The school is now closed, and all its records have been destroyed.
The national archives (1951) list the facility as: ‘Morley Hall hostel for maladjusted children (senior boys).’ Other descriptions include a ‘home for boys from broken homes’ and a ‘home for older boys with behavioural and learning difficulties.’
Morley Hall gave each boy a number and the book’s author simply credits himself as Number 5.
“When I found out that the school had closed down, I felt it was my responsibility to record the rules and life at Morley Hall,” explains Number 5.
“Far from being maladjusted, the truth is that back in the1980s, children with learning disabilities, dyslexia, autism, ADHD, and other behavioural issues were left undiagnosed. Unsure what to do with all the ‘problem’ children, they were sent to Morley Hall.”
Morley Hall Rules is available now on Amazon in Kindle, paperback, and audiobook formats.
