The story is based on the real, lived experiences of Lassalle, a science writer and witch, as she attempts to break a demonic family curse that began when her father, Mouhannad Albukhari, kidnapped the CEO of Adobe in 1992. Lassalle seamlessly weaves fantastical narration of demonic possession with genuine scientific research into the mystical.
The result? A chilling effect on one’s sense of reality. The story throws readers into a schizophrenic-like state as they slowly lose the ability to distinguish what is real from what is not.

“I first pitched the idea to VICE years ago,” says Lassalle. “It was back in 2018, shortly after I learned my father had begun practicing black magic in prison. They were interested but could not find a way to ethically or legally access his work so they had to pass.”
“My dad, however, documented everything he knew about black magic into these cursed, hand-written journals he sent me years later,” Lassalle continues. “When I got a hold of them I knew it was finally time to start writing this story for myself.”
A member of The International Screenwriters’ Association, Lassalle is already beginning to adapt her work for TV and or film. Having received a screenwriting grant back in 2018 for her work on The Strangers, in 2021 Lassalle was awarded an additional grant for her artwork.
