"This very private and personal account of living through the creation of modern Suburbia, the author's challenges, and life in the movie business, is thoroughly expressed with fearless truth and integrity." - Jed Grossman, EVP Lionsgate Films

The Great American Suburban Experiment is a deeply personal, unflinchingly honest memoir from industry veteran Mark Ehrenkranz. Set against the backdrop of post-war suburbia—a time of rapid growth, excess, and evolving values—the book explores America’s most prosperous decades through the lens of one man’s life, struggles, and redemption.

Spanning 43 years in the film industry, Ehrenkranz’s journey from suburban boyhood to Hollywood insider is layered with raw accounts of addiction, recovery, and self-discovery. With candor and courage, he questions whether the comforts of suburban life and the rise of consumerism may have inadvertently fostered unhealthy behaviors and dependence.

With a unique voice and a lifetime of behind-the-scenes experience, Ehrenkranz shares intimate stories involving notable Hollywood figures, as well as deeply personal family revelations. His background as the producer of The New York Film Critics Series®—which brought major films and filmmakers to audiences across the country—offers readers an insider’s look at the entertainment world.

WARNING: This book contains mature themes with family and personal secrets. It includes disturbing graphic material, depictions of addiction, and other injurious behaviors.
