Pittsburg, California Nov 21, 2019 (Issuewire.com) - There are thousands of children in East Africa orphaned from either malaria or HIV and thus left to deal with the improbabilities of a disinterested world. Told through the eyes of three orphaned girls, NNE from Tanzania is a true-to-life story of their inspiring journey from Tanzania to Addis Ababa with a mysterious fourteen-year-old girl named Nne who is seeking a repair of her vaginal fistula, a common problem among African girls.
As a nurse in Bugando Medical Center in Mwanza, Tanzania, in 2006, author Dennis Gladwell watched as scores of young women made this same journey from Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda for this life-altering surgery at the internationally famous Fistula Hospital in Ethiopia. Dennis attended college on an athletic scholarship, but his interests quickly changed to academics. After two years of graduate school in philosophy, he attended law school and practiced with a prestigious international firm in Los Angeles for twenty-eight years. After becoming interested in third-world medicine during a trek to Mount Everest, he quit the practice of law when he was fifty-five. He went to nursing school, graduated with an RN, and set out on multiple medical expeditions to the Amazon, Guatemala, and Africa. While working in Tanzania, he learned of, and fell in love with, the story of young African girls who suffered from a vaginal fistula. Their courageous and harrowing story, across hundreds of Serengeti miles, has never been told until this book.
Dennis’s work will be exhibited at the Miami Book Fair Street Fair weekend, to be held at Miami Dade College (Wolfson Campus) in downtown Miami this coming November 22-24 at the Authors Press booth. To get the latest update on authors, like and follow Authors Press on Facebook and Twitter.
