Costa Mesa, California Nov 7, 2019 (Issuewire.com) - On November 8th and November, the Holiday Art Festival will be held at the Costa Mesa Women’s Club located at 610 W. 18th Street in downtown Costa Mesa. Fine art photographer Matt Fitt will be a featured artist at this art show.
Born and raised in Costa Mesa, California, Matt Fitt went on to graduate with a BA from UC Santa Cruz, and later received his JD from UC Hastings College of the Law, but Fitt was not destined for a career in law. Fitt received a digital camera as a graduation gift and, much to the consternation of friends and family, his passion for capturing beauty through the lens was immediately ignited.
Since receiving his first digital camera, he has created a diverse portfolio, shooting everything from musical performances to family portraits to serious photojournalist documentaries. His passion has taken him from the Arizona deserts to the frozen lakes of northern Wisconsin; from the surf of California to the swamps of Florida, and beyond. Now with over 15 years of experience as a professional photographer, his work has appeared in numerous publications including the San Francisco Chronicle, SF Bay Guardian, and East Bay Express. He has also worked with politically progressive candidates and politicians on multiple campaigns, and with organizations that promote social and ecological justice, such as the Smith Renaissance Society, Rainforest Action Network, Resource Center for Non-Violence, and the Seva Foundation.
This year, his work has included a greater emphasis on documenting political rallies and campaigns in southern California, including those of Congressman Harley Rouda, State Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris, and Mayor Katrina Foley, among others. He was also selected as the photographer for the official 2019 portraits for the City Council of Costa Mesa.
Fitt is especially proud to be featured in this first fine art show for the Costa Mesa Women's Club because proceeds from the Holiday Art Festival will help make nursing scholarships available to Costa Mesa area students. The 109-year-old Costa Mesa Women’s Club has been making nursing scholarships available for a number of years, but it is the first time the club members have celebrated art in order to help struggling nursing students.
Fitt plans to photographically document the art show and prepare a photojournalistic presentation for the Chair of the Holiday Art Festival, Amelia Painter, to officially present to the Costa Mesa Cultural Arts Committee shortly after the show.
The Opening Reception for the Holiday Art Festival will be held on Friday, November 8, 2019. Mayor Katrina Foley will speak at 6:30 pm and be followed by a Native American flute selection by jewelry artisan Fred Curtis. The public is invited and there is no admission fee. Refreshments will be served and parking is free outside the building. To learn more about the art show, go to https://cmwomensclub.com/holiday-art-festival.
