Pittsburg, California Nov 22, 2019 (Issuewire.com)  - Finding one’s place in the world is never an easy or comfortable task, but it pays off in the end. But what happens when the role you’re told to play is not the role you want?

This is the conundrum that Petie the Pirate is stuck within Jim Best’s children’s story, The Irate Pirate. Petie had always excelled in the Pirate Training Academy. But despite his natural aptitude in piracy and the expectations from his teachers and peers for him to pursue a career in high-sea hijinks, Petie is looking for something different, something that doesn’t involve eyepatches and peg legs. To a young mind, that can be a very confusing and daunting realization. Will he just carry on swashbuckling with the rest of them, or will he stand up for his heart’s true calling? Jim’s story of Petie aims to teach children to live their truths in spite of all the pressure from society to conform to one mold. And with quirky illustrations by Emily Lynch Victory, the book is a delight for both adults and young ones.

Jim is currently working on the fictional village of Stillville, a community populated by animals and where most of the stories in Best Stories Alive take place in. He’s lived in at least four states and five cities, from Detroit, Michigan, to Yountville, California. His writing helps support students of the Wayne State University through the Helen M. Butts Endowed Scholarship.

James’s work will be exhibited at the Miami Book Fair Street Fair weekend, to be held at Miami Dade College (Wolfson Campus) in downtown Miami this coming November 22-24 at the Authors Press booth. To get the latest update on authors, like and follow Authors Press on Facebook and Twitter.
