Chennai, Tamil Nadu (Issuewire.com) - The Institution of Green Engineers and The Institution of Engineers (India) TamilNadu State Centre , successfully completed IGEN ENVIRONTHON 2024 and achieved a record from the EUROPEAN UNION OFFICIAL WORLD RECORDS organization. The academic partners for the program were Sri Eshwar College of Engineering, JNN Institute of Engineering, Dr. MGR Educational and Research Institute and St. Xavier’s Catholic college of Engineering.
IGEN ENVIRONTHON 2024 : LBR (Limca Book of Records) and WBR (World Book of Records London) Certified IGEN ENVIRONTHON MARATHON executed and creates new world record of 29 Non Stop Hours, interlinked with PANCHABHUTAS (five elements) conservation and COP29 themes. The marathon began at 04 PM (IST) on 14 Sep 2024 and ended at 9 PM (IST) on 15 Sep 2024. This grand event took place over 29 non-stop hours, bringing together 29 partners, International speakers from 29 countries, National Speakers from 29 states, State Speakers from 29 districts. The event deliberated on 29 thematic issues aligned with COP 29 (UN Climate Change Conference), 29 thematic titles aligned towards SDGs targets and 29 thematic titles aligned towards PANCHABHUTAS on 14th – 15th Sep 2024.
IGEN ENVIRONTHON 2024 focused on the implementation action plan for the conservation of the PANCHABHUTAS (the five elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space), a holistic approach that directly impacts the global fight against climate change. The discussions and outcomes of this event will culminate in summit recommendations to COP 29, guiding global efforts toward sustainable environmental practices. The Institution of Green Engineers' President Dr L. Ramesh opened IGEN ENVIRONTHON 2024 with his thematic address. A brief explanation of 29 hrs MARATHON's program schedule was given by Er D. Gokul (Director IGEN & Organising Chair IGEN ENVIRONTHON 2024). Thiru Siva V. Meyyanathan, Honourable Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Tamil Nadu lit the lamp and inaugurated IGEN ENVIRONTHON 2024 and delivered inaugural address. Dr. G. Ranganath, FIE, President IE(I), the honoured guest, gave the keynote address. He emphasised the need of CO2 control and challenged everyone to make a commitment to reducing CO2. Honourable Minister of Environment and Climate Change presented “IGEN COP29 CO2 Promoter Award 2024” to the dedicated Volunteers of The Institution of Green Engineers.
Following the inauguration, the session was taken over by Dr. Ishrat Meera Mirzana, the Organizing Secretary, who reported that six pre-conferences were held between August 27, 2024, and September 13, 2024, with a focus on the SDGs and COP29. Dr Thanuja, Organizing Secretary gave a quick overview of the entire program schedule and extended an invitation to Head of EARTH Element to continue the first session program.

The Earth element Head Dr. Radha Ram Mohan opened the session with the inaugural by Chief Guest Mr. Naveen Jayachandran, Vice Chairman (JNN Institute of Engineering) followed by research conclave by International speakers, Student competitions – Digital art collaboration and light bulb, idea exchange panel by speakers from various states of India, Intellect summit by speakers from various districts. Six country speakers presented the need for CO2 reduction and deliberated the themes of COP29 and represented seven recommendations for implementation. The Earth element valedictory ceremony chief guest was Dr. P. Selvi Rajendran, Head, Research, Hindustan University, India.
The water element session Headed by Dr ManiMala, was conducted from 11PM to 4PM, with Dr. Sudha Mohanram, Managing Trustee from Sri Eshwar College of Engineering and Dr. Karrupusamy as the Chief Guests for inaugural and sessions by National and International experts was presented on future for water sustainability experts voice, Climatic change impact on aquatic ecology and innovative practices for protection, Water in Life, Life in water, Conclave on innovative solutions for water conservation, Waste water treatment via scopes reactor, Session partner discussion; student competition on short film, MIME corner for water sustainability and water related projects presentation, Towards more green campus: initiatives taken by IIT Roorkee by national speakers, Protection of water resources (ARASU FM 90.4 RJs). The valedictory of water element session was graced by Karthick Shanmuga Sundaram, Founder and CEO, GUSTEAU foods Pvt. Ltd.
The fire element sessions Headed by Dr Madhan Kumar, were scheduled from 4 am to 9 am on 15th September, 2024 with inaugural Chief guest- Dr. Srividhya Sukumar, Educationist, Entrepreneur, Quality Assurance expert, R & D, Master Coach, followed by panel discussion on climate action and fire element by International speakers, experts talking on climate change and nanotechnology- impacts and innovations, Enhancing responsible practices in improving sustainability, panel discussion on fire element in power sector, Bhoomi bio enzymes – live demo and presentation, Quiz contest for students and had Dr. S. Gomathinayagam, IPMA- A certified Project Director as the chief guest for Valedictory.
The Air element sessions Head Dr Preetha Marry George, were scheduled from 9 AM to 2 PM on 15th September, 2024, with Dr. C. Vinoth Kumar, Head, Supply Chain Management, Tata Trusts, Mumbai as the chief guest for Inaugural session of Air element. Amb. Prof. Dr. Esther Mala, CEO Elegant Empire Education coordinated the Forum on revitalizing Urban air- strategies and solutions with 12 International speakers across the Globe. The other sessions of air element were Colloquium on “From CFC’s 2 Climate change”, Cartoon design contest for students, research review on CO2 reduction through Air element, Speakers from JNN Institute of Engineering presentation on climate change. The Valedictory for Air element was graced by Prof. Dr. M. Subbaraj from Shadan College of Engineering and Technology, India.
The space element Head Dr Anuradha initiated inaugural ceremony which was graced by Padmashri Vasagam, Former Director for APPLE ISRO. An awareness program on Exploring the space sustainability – a student’s program was organized. Ms. Rania Lampou, Ministry of Education, Greece has coordinated the panel discussion of International speakers on space technologies for climate change observation and action. Idea pitch presentation, role of space technology towards sustainable future, space science- a boon towards conserving environment, opportunities for students on social entrepreneurship on space science. The session had a chat on “Fulfilling Abdul Kalam’s Vision: Space Exploration for Environmental conservation and Sustainable solutions” with Mr. APJMJ Sheik Dawood, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam International Foundation, Tamilnadu with Er. D. Gokul, Director, IGEN concluding the Space element session.

The valedictory of IGEN ENVIRONTHON 2024 kick started on 15th September 2024 during National Engineers Day, 9PM at IE(India) TNSC Office Chennai. The Chairman of IE(India) Tamil Nadu State Centre, Dr. V. Karthikeyan, gave the felicitation speech and thanked all of the volunteers who gave of their time to organise the MARATHON. Dr. Kaushik Palicha, Managing Director of Entity 1 Value Emissions Pvt. Ltd., was the valedictory chief guest and delivered the valedictory address. Dr J. Balamurugan (Vice President IGEN) delivered special address and he expressed the action points to implement in COP29 conference. Dr SenthilKumar (Director IGEN ) presented special address and he expressed the action points to implement in SDG Goals.
All of the PANCHABHBUTHAS element staff coordinators who devoted their important time to wrapping up the Marathon Big Success are commended and appreciated by Dr. L. Ramesh and Er. Gokul. The student lead coordinators (Faiz & Team; Niranjan & Team; Murali & Team; Mugula & Team) and team members who contributed to the planning and execution of the Marathon received another salute of appreciation.
The event was a grand success with the support from IE (I) TNSC, International partners, Element heads, coordinators, moderators under the guidance and support of the IGEN directors, Student volunteers and the participants.
