Milwaukee, Wisconsin Jun 19, 2020 (Issuewire.com) - Raising the Bar, Unity Gospel House of Prayer, and college student, Destini Tomlin unite to create a “Moment of Mourning” campaign and community march on the 4th of July 2020 starting at 10:00 AM.
Milwaukee, WI: A Moment of Mourning is a peaceful campaign that gives communities the opportunity to unite in solidarity and release the toxic stress built up from the most recent loss of lives across the nation due to COVID-19, racial injustice, and violence. Some mistakenly believe people of color are angry; misunderstanding the deeper emotion of sadness, grief, and fear. This is not a campaign against law enforcement or a race of people. It is a campaign to say that “THEY”, whoever takes the lives of people of color, have to stop! Families of color are losing loved ones daily and; most don’t receive the fairness, rights, and justice that are celebrated on the day set aside to celebrate our countries Independence.
We are asking for community support during the Moment of Mourning in the following ways:
-
Meet us in the parking lot of Unity Gospel House of Prayer wearing all black at 10:00 AM located at 1747 N 12th St.
-
If you can’t join us in person, please join show support by posting a selfie in all black on your social media pages with the hashtag #becausetheycan on July 4th starting at 10:00 AM.
-
Women we ask that you wear a black veil and, men a black armband in solidarity of the campaign's message and purpose.
The Moment of Mourning will include prayer from Pastor Marlon Lock, healing spoken words by award-winning poet and TEDx Speaker, La’Ketta Caldwell, a moment of silence, music, and an opportunity to turn pain into action. After the program, we will lock arms for a Unity March with college-aged leaders. The purpose of the march is to unify as one intergenerational body that stands against racial inequalities, social injustice; and to begin the process of healing.
