Rami Mornel Has Volunteered for A Record of 4 Different Teams in One Season

Rami Mornel grew up on a collective farm in the north of Israel and as a kid, he was known as exceptional basketball talent and led his high school team in scoring for three consecutive years.

West Carson, California May 12, 2022 (Issuewire.com)  - Soccer and basketball spring championships in Vancouver, WA, started to run 4 weeks ago. Firstenburg community center is hosting the soccer leagues while YMCA is hosting the basketball leagues. Known as a sportsman for his entire life, Rami Mornel has volunteered for a record of 4 different teams in one season, two basketballs teams- one consisting of kids in first and second Grades, and one team of kids in third and fourth grade, as well as two soccer teams, one with kids 6-7 years old and another one with kids in the age of 8-9. His basketball team, the oranges, seem to be by far the best in the league and so far won all their games by an average of 30 points.

With the leadership of a talented young kid name Noah and Rami Mornel’s Son Michael, the team seems to be unstoppable and on their way to a perfect season. After the first two games which saw Noah as the leading scorer, it was Michael Mornel who came up big with a game-high 20 points game last Saturday as the team cruised to a 46-10 win. Rami’s other basketball team opened the season with two wins but came up short in last Saturday's game with 38:50 losses.

The team was without their two talented guards, Kai and Benny. Benny Mornel, Rami’s older boy who’s currently 8 years old, was supposed to lead the team but got injured with a fractured elbow just a few days before the season started. There’s a hope he will be able to get back to play before the spring season ends.

This last game on Saturday was between the two best teams in the league so far. Rami’s team the Black Mamba - won their first two games by an average of 10 points and was facing a team with beat their two openers by an average of 30 points. However, the game was very tight and competitive in the first ten minutes of the game, with ‘the black Mamba’ taking the 14:10 lead. However, they had to play not only against a tough opponent but also what seemed to be a very one-sided referee who in the first half called 10 fouls and five traveling on one side to zero on the other side.

The team played hard and came up short, but remain very optimistic it can still win the last three games of the season, including a rematch against the leaders, especially with the hope that Kai will get healthy soon, Benny's elbow healed well and he will be able to play in the next round. Rami Mornel’s bigger soccer team also suffer deeply from the absence of benny, who was expected to be the main leader and scorer of the team. Their soccer team does have some talented kids, but so far hasn’t been able to come up with a win.

The first game saw them losing a tough battle with a final score of 2-4. In the second game they were ahead twice,1-0 and 2-1, then fell to a 2-4 deficit, but were able to make a late inspiring comeback to tie the game 4-4. In the third game, they missed not only Benny but also their so far leading scorer Neyland as well as Rami Mornel the coach, and his assisting coach Kate, and couldn’t come up with a point on a 1-4 loss. Rami said he’s very optimistic that when Benny comes back from his injury they can make a run and collect a few wins.

But unlike their 8-9 years old team, the younger 6-7 boys have been on a roll. The team called ‘The Tigers’ has some talented young boys like Mason, Hudson, and Rami’s son Michael, and a young boy named Liam who’s so far played as ‘little Messi’. The young ‘Tigers’ opened their season with an impressive 7-0 win, but in the second game had to deal with a lot of adversity.

Although controlling the first half, they fell into a 0-2 deficit after receiving goals on two counterattacks. In the second half, they put pressure to make it 1-2 and kept massive pressure, getting a few great chances before finally making it a 2-2 Tie. The third game took place last Saturday against a very aggressive opponent. Despite the adversity, ‘The Tigers’ was able to come out with an impressive 3-0 win.

This was ‘little Messi’ (Liam) best game so far and he was a key part all over the field as the team took a 1-0 lead into halftime. In the second half, they were able to add to the lead and have some safety zone with a 2-0 lead. Little Messi took 5 minutes to break towards the end of the game but that didn’t stop ‘the Tigers’ who were able to score and win the game 3-0. Rami Mornel said he is very proud of the boys for making constant efforts to get better.

Their three games so far were under cold weather with some rain, something a bit typical for the northwest weather. Each of Rami’s teams still has 4 games till the end of the season, with basketball practices taking place on Wednesday, soccer practices on Thursday, and all four games on Saturday. As it stands right now, it seems that his younger basketball team will easily secure first place and possibly complete an unbeatable season, and his younger soccer team will compete for a first-place till the end.

The bigger basketball team, the black mamba, should be able to win at least 3 more games and have a rematch against the leading team. If their star Benny will be healthy for the rematch, they have good shot to come from behind and steal the title. Bennys soccer team may have lost too many points so far, but depending on when he can get back on the field, they may have a chance to run the table and make some noise at the end.

Anyways it’s a full schedule with coaching for teams at once but Rami Mornel says it’s a very big blessing to be able to guide so many kids, help them get better in sports as well as in life, and encourage them to always try hard and never give up.
