Samastipur, Bihar Jun 29, 2026 (Issuewire.com) - Not every poet waits for permission. Raunak Kumar, a Computer Science and Data Analytics student at IIT Patna, has been writing and publishing Hindi-Urdu poetry alongside his engineering studies — not as a side project, but as something he considers equally serious.
Writing under the pen name Raunak Karn, he has self-published two collections through Notion Press: "Andhere Me Parchae" (Shadows in the Dark) and "Badnaam Na Honge To Naam Na Hoga." Both are listed on Amazon and Flipkart and available to readers in India and abroad.
His poetry follows the classical Ghazal form — structured, metered verse rooted in the Urdu literary tradition — while writing about things that feel immediate: belonging, ambition, silence, and the particular kind of loneliness that comes with being far from home. His work has been featured on Rekhta, one of India's most respected Urdu literary archives, and on Poetistic.
Raunak is not making grand claims. He is a student who writes, publishes what he writes, and has found readers who connect with it. His following on social media has grown organically, largely among young people who grew up hearing Urdu poetry but rarely saw it written by someone their own age, in a voice that felt like their own.
Outside poetry, he works as a Full-Stack Developer — building web applications and learning systems that reflect the same structured thinking his Ghazals require.
"I didn't start writing to become someone," Raunak says. "I started because I had things I needed to say and poetry was the only form that felt honest enough to say them in."
