Frisco, Texas Aug 3, 2021 (Issuewire.com) - On Saturday, August 7 at 1 p.m., Rock Star Martial Arts is hosting an OPEN HOUSE, offering a FREE self-defense class for women, college girls, and even moms to teach them how to protect themselves from or in difficult situations. Open house starts at 9 a.m. with Teen/Adult Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu followed by a 10 a.m. class for 3-4-year-olds. Ages 5-11 will have an intro to Anti-Bullying at 10:30 and Muay Thai Kickboxing for teens/adults at 11:45 a.m.
Rock Star Martial Arts is a local franchise founded by Shiva and husband James Boecker as their love and dedication for martial arts taught them so many life lessons leading them to their ultimate purpose of sharing their gifts with others.
As the only longstanding, female-owned martial arts franchise in Frisco, Shiva has taught students the art of discipline and self-defense techniques for several years. As a young girl, Shiva struggled with self-confidence and self-esteem but eventually found her true self and purpose in martial arts. When asked why women should learn to protect themselves, Shiva says, “Violence against women is growing at such an alarming rate. I have a sister and niece and I care about their safety so much that I taught them simple techniques to protect themselves from an attacker. There are so many women who don’t have access to this type of training to build their confidence level and to feel safe anywhere. My mission is to change that, starting right here in my community.”
Shiva trains several times in Jiu-Jitsu and at the gym weekly. In between training and running the franchise business day-to-day, she and her husband James created a stellar leadership training program where together they mentor a small group of select students on a weekly basis. “These students are selected because they exemplify discipline and hard work and we wanted to build them up. In our sessions, we learn leadership skills and how they translate into life lessons. They also get the opportunity to apply those leadership skills as the coach’s assistants with a minimum of a hundred training hours across the different classes we offer here at Rock Star. The girls in our leadership training program have been amazing and this is so dear to my wife’s heart.” says James Boecker.
Three independent studies concluded that women who complete a self-defense course are at least 50-60% less likely to be raped and are 33% less likely to report that someone had attempted to rape them. According to the www.unwomen.org , by September 2020, 52 countries had integrated prevention and response to violence against women and girls into COVID -19 response plans.
