Superior, Colorado Jan 8, 2024 (Issuewire.com) - In a celebration of resilience and camaraderie, disabled athletes from across the nation are gearing up for the highly anticipated 2nd annual Rocky Mountain Mayhem Sled Hockey Tournament. Hosted by the non-profit organization Colorado Sled Hockey, the event is set to showcase the prowess of 20 teams comprising 200 athletes, including kids, adults, and military veterans.
Taking place from Friday, January 12, to Sunday, January 14, at Blue Sport Stable in Superior, CO, the tournament spans three intense days of competition. The event, featuring 24 exhilarating games, boasts three adult divisions and features player experience from newcomers to seasoned Paralympians, including gold medalists from the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and the 2023 International Para Hockey Cup.
Erik Tasto of Colorado Sled Hockey said, "Our goal is to foster a widespread movement where everyone shares a belief in the success of sled hockey. The tournament is a great opportunity for players and the community to unite and contribute to something larger."
Fan Day Highlights - Saturday, January 13th:
- Youth Sled Game: Foothills Flyers vs Little Avs — An able-body youth hockey team from Littleton, CO will try their hand at sled hockey in this exhibition game with the Avs Youth Sled Team.
- Hockey for All — Dive into the action by trying sled, blind, or able body hockey. All fans, friends, and family are invited to experience the sport firsthand
- Mayhem Mixer — Join us upstairs in the Superior Eatery for the Tournament celebration. Enjoy live music, great food & drinks for purchase, plus a chance to meet some amazing disabled athletes.
- Police & Firefighter Sled Game — Watch local able-bodied firefighters and police officers climb into sleds and face off in a game unlike any they’ve experienced before
- Paralympic-Level Showcase Game — Don’t miss the primetime game between the elite Chicago Blackhawks and Colorado Avalanche, featuring the top two teams in the nation and many Paralympic gold medalists
