STARTUP REVOLUTION IN RAJASTHAN (The man behind it: Sushil Sharma)

Jodhpur, Rajasthan May 26, 2021 (Issuewire.com)  -

  • The gold lies in smaller towns and with massive digitalisation happening in our country, India is no longer defined by its top eight cities, there is a world beyond the metros.
  • The opportunity is here for all stakeholders to come together and join forces to trigger an Angel revolution across the country.
  • With Startups, Entrepreneurs, Investors & Innovators from all walks of life equipped with the market knowledge and valuable connections, Marwari Catalysts acts as an Inclusive Ecosystem Builder.
  • The need of the hour is to look at startups as a long-term investment opportunities.
  • MCATS a family of 30+ startups and 500+ Investors.
  • Co-Founded by 20+ professionals, largely CA’s and Successful Startup Founders.

As India endures a reverse migration of millions, Rajasthan’s based entrepreneur-cum-investor Mr. Sushil Sharma has a redesigned blueprint for the world. This world has people staying back in small towns, enabling innovation, scale, capital, and entrepreneurship.

With his perseverance, and consistently evacuating the belief about small town and entrepreneurship, Mr. Sushil Sharma has turned out to be the man of courage and changed the direction of how business works. He is absolutely resolute in his work and with his exceptional Marwari intellect, he has revolutionized the startup ecosystem in Rajasthan and Tier-II and III cities of India.

When Small is Big

While India has a vibrant startup ecosystem of more than 50,000 startups, it is often confined to metropolitan cities. States like Rajasthan, and some Tier II/Tier III towns, as well as rural India, lack an entrepreneurial ecosystem, which inhibits their opportunities.

Mr. Sushil Sharma, with a determined mindset and the love affair with smaller towns and angel investing, tried out to bring the unrecognized talent on the floor with his prominent and successful venture, Marwari Catalysts, in the year 2019.

He has always believed that the gold lies in smaller towns, their entrepreneurs, and investors, and the untapped opportunity in tier II, III, and beyond is a blessing for his venture.

In today date, being India's fastest growing accelerator, it is passionately promoting the budding entrepreneurs to expand their network and giving wings to their idea-stage product.

Besides raising seed and Series A investments for startups, Marwari Catalysts has known for its startup developing capability, strategic guidance, generating business leads, leveraging its network across the globe such as the UK, Hong Kong, Middle East, Africa, through its partners and providing phenomenal returns to its investors, in turn bagging successful exits.

The firm, which is pioneering entrepreneurship in Bharat or India beyond the top 10 metros, thus aims to have its presence in over 100 start-up cities and towns in the country on the back of rapid reforms undertaken by the Government to create more smart cities.

Boosting the Ecosystem:

“DETERMINATION IS THE WAKE-UP CALL TO HUMAN WILL.”

This axiom goes well with him when he started with this venture. Marwari Catalysts is a firm of assiduous community that inspires to constitute the new-age entrepreneurs and helps in building a constructive ecosystem in Rajasthan as well as in the Tier2/Tier 3 cities.

The firm has been working closely with angel investors and high-potential ventures, giving them a chance to achieve rapid growth and scale by enabling access to technology, as well as mentorship, business networking, and investment opportunities.

Sushil Sharma claims,

“The entire ecosystem is poised on the brink of a major transformation and the opportunity to trigger an angel revolution across the country is massive. This is the time for all the stakeholders to come together and join forces to give the country’s entrepreneurial ecosystem a big boost.”

Today, apart from being a family of 80 co-founders, the vastly experienced teams at Marwari Catalysts include 21 CAs, 15 IIT graduates, 10 IIM graduates, and 500+ Angel Investors. Despite being founded less than two years ago, Marwari Catalysts Ventures have already cemented a place in the market and claims to have spread its wings in most of the Tier2/Tier3 cities like Jaipur, Pune, Ahmedabad, Nasik, Surat, and overseas as well.

Up till now, the Rajasthan-based growth accelerator has incubated 40 plus startups while also owning stakes in more than 16 startups. Marwari Catalysts Ventures is supported by a group of Angel Investors from all walks of life equipped with the market knowledge and valuable connections.

Fulfilling The Vision Of A Startup Nation By Focusing On Tier II And Tier III Cities

While most incubators, accelerators, and early-stage investment firms focus on Tier I cities of Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru alone, Marwari Catalysts decided to go into the interiors and permeate the Tier II and Tier III cities.

Sushil believes that the low talent and operational costs in Tier II and Tier III cities are a major reason why startups situated in these regions are able to achieve better unit economics than their peers in metros and Tier I cities.

Also, where they stand out, he believes, is in the originality of their ideas. He reveals,

“Startups in Tier II and Tier III cities are much more focused on getting the commercial aspect. They have high aspirations. These are original ideas. We have seen a lot of copy-paste ideas in Tier I cities but we see fresh ideas in Tier II and Tier III cities.

Also if I talk from an investment point of view, in Bengaluru, Delhi & Mumbai, early-stage capital is hard to find. Most of the investors who have invested have not seen a complete cycle of returns yet.”

Success stories of startups from smaller cities have played a massive role in boosting the sentiments of investors. Take, for instance, Marwari Catalysts Ventures-backed Edtech startup, ‘Noesis Learning’, made big headlines as India’s leading Higher education start-up – ‘ImaginXP’ announced its strategic acquisition.

Another recent update, despite the challenges because of COVID-19, is that one of Marwari Catalysts portfolio Agetech startup, Sarathi Healthcare raised Rs 1Cr from a group of investors and is expecting more funds in the next couple of months.

Or as Sushil addresses it,

“When we go to a Tier II city, we look at developing the ecosystem. Because essentially, we are more of ecosystem developers than investors.”

Uplifting the Education Sector

Building capabilities is Sushil’s idea of wealth creation, not financial valuation. With his strong command in the educational department, he has been involved in taking the high-tech education accelerator program approaches. His passion for emerging technology has changed the course of literacy learning. He has shown tremendous encouragement in accelerating and ascending high-tech education with ease.

In this direction, Rajasthan’s Venture builder, launched an EdTech accelerator program called, ‘Thrive’, starting with a selection of six startups from 300 applicants across India. This 12-week program plans to aid EdTech start-ups to become market-ready, strengthening their innovation, and scaling their businesses, in order to solve global challenges.

The chosen start-ups are hereby working on game-changing ideas and innovative technologies in the education industry.

Consecutive years of lockdown: Road ahead for the Indian entrepreneur ecosystem

While the challenges are considerable, Sushil believes, the non-metro startups stand tall as they have got used to dealing with ‘challenges’.

“When you are in a startup, you often do not get the time to check what’s working and what’s not; we simply accept the challenges and turn them into an opportunity. The non-metro cities very well prove this because the four major challenges i.e. lack of exposure, awareness, angel investment, and professional resources, are now turned into an opportunity as there is more awareness because of exposure through the digital medium,” says Jodhpur-based Sushil Sharma.

Sushil adds that the lockdown in India is a blessing in disguise for startups in non-metro cities. He says that because of the lockdown and the massive digitalisation revolution happening in the country at present, people are having more time to think about and explore newer opportunities from a startup’s point of view –which was a missing component in non-metro cities.

He also highlights that the country is witnessing a major shift of professionals joining the startup ecosystem in non-metro cities, rather than metros, to build deep tech ventures in artificial intelligence, the internet of things, etc, across various verticals at the grass-root level.

And these developments give us enough encouragement and expect the growth coming in from small towns of India.

Marwari Catalysts- Future Plans

In terms of business expansion, Rajasthan's venture builder is looking at increasing its global footprint and also will continue to penetrate deeper into emerging tier-2/tier-3 markets across India.

Marwari Catalysts is set up with an aim to make it easier for investors to invest in startups and at the same time, scout for investment opportunities in Rajasthan as well as other tier 2/tier3 cities of our nation.

Summing up,

Sushil Sharma, while targeting the potential Angel investors, says,

“I’ve always believed that delivering results and value is the best way of attracting meaningful relationships – and the only growth strategy that matters is collaboration.”
