Jacksonville, Florida May 26, 2021 (Issuewire.com) - The Jacksonville Athletic Academy hires Jacksonville native Torien Moore as the Head Basketball Coach for the inaugural season of its JUCO program. Coach Moore brings experience to the first-year program after finishing the 2020-2021 season as a part of the basketball coaching staff for the Ed White Commanders (FL).
Moore also brings the familiarity with the city to the Jacksonville Athletic Academy from his high school basketball career. He played on multiple prominent high school programs in the Jacksonville area which includes being a part of the Ribault Trojans basketball team who finished runner up in the state championship for the 2013-2014 season. Being born and raised in the Jacksonville area, Moore understands the opportunity this could represent for the kids that’s looking for the next steps in their future. He hopes that with him being the head coach of the academy, he can provide the youth with an added opportunity that he seen stripped away from his friends growing up.
“Coming up playing basketball in Jacksonville it was very competitive. There was constant pressure on us growing up to secure a basketball scholarship to change our lives,” said Moore.
“Some of that pressure was a result of not having the opportunities to play on the next level for the large pool of talent we had in the city. I want this school to serve as an extra opportunity within the city to help these kids change their lives. I want to give back to the city that gave so much to me growing up.” The Jacksonville Athletic Academy (JAA) is a two-year junior college athletics program that is based in Jacksonville, Florida.
JAA is a college sports program under the National Independent Athletic Association (NIAA). The NIAA is a national independent organization for intercollegiate, small college, and trade school athletic programs.
Moore will also bring collegiate experience to JAA from his college basketball career which included stops at Great Lakes Christian College and Wilberforce University. Moore played a vital role at both programs and plans to use the lessons he learned as a player to craft the type of athletes he wants to coach at JAA.
“I’m looking to develop young men who have a love and passion for the game of basketball,” said Moore.“At JAA we will compete on a daily basis and use the resources given to us to get better throughout the year. My goal is to have all my kids leave the Jacksonville Athletic Academy better than what they came.”
