Detroit, Michigan Jun 5, 2019 (Issuewire.com) - Epic 4D LLC, a Detroit-based educational video game, software, and animation company, is animating the Mueller Report for audiences of all ages. Using verbatim excerpts from the 448-page report as narration, the 1- to 2-minute animations are aimed at demystifying the lawyerly document.
The free animations – developed as part of Epic 4D’s Reinvent Journalism Project – will be hosted on YouTube at “Mueller Report Animated.” Seven of a planned 60 episodes have already been released, with new episodes out every Monday and Thursday.
“As local newspapers struggle across the country, we are looking at innovative ways to tell important stories and engage news consumers,” said Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and Epic 4D CEO Melvin Claxton. “While the Mueller Report is widely discussed, it remains a document many, including members of Congress, have not read. Our primary goal is educating the public on the report’s findings in an easily understood and engaging way.”
Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report – the result of his two-year investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election – is at the center of a bitter political battle that has divided the nation. It has prompted calls for the impeachment of President Donald Trump.
The animations – based on word-for-word excerpts from the redacted report – highlight Mueller’s findings on three critical issues: Russia’s 2016 election interference, claims the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians and charges President Trump obstructed justice. Claxton said while it was essential to use verbatim transcripts in the narration to ensure the journalistic integrity of the project, animators were given latitude in their illustration of facts and events.
“To get people to listen to what Mueller is saying we have to first hold their attention,” Claxton said. “I wanted these animations, which deal with issues of great national and international importance, to also have strong entertainment value. However, at the end of the day, the content of the Mueller Report is the thing that matters.”
Epic 4D, which plans to release new animations through December, has several other groundbreaking journalism projects in development, including long-form journalism and virtual reality reporting apps. The company also plans to incorporate video game technology in some journalism projects.
Epic 4D LLC produces the Great Bible Race, the world’s largest Bible knowledge video game. Later this year, it will release a reading app for children with dyslexia. The 5-year-old company plans to release its first animated film, a short feature on the Syrian war, early next year.
