Tinkle's Shikari Shambu Turns 38

The iconic hero from the legendary comic magazine will turn one year older on 3 June, 2021

Mumbai, Maharashtra Jun 1, 2021 (Issuewire.com)  - India's most famous fictional forest ranger, Shikari Shambu, turns a year older on 3 June 2021. As part of the celebrations, the Tinkle team is organising a variety of fun online activities for kids across the country (and the world) to take part in. Over his birthday week, the team will be premiering a brand new series of animated micro-shorts on their YouTube channel (Suppandi & Friends), that will trace Shambu's newest avatar as a wildlife photographer. There will also be a brand new mini Shambu collection coming out, chronicling the bumbling yet fortunate forest ranger’s adventures across the globe. Over the course of the week, members of the Tinkle team will be conducting online workshops and storytelling sessions centred around Tinkle’s iconic hero. The festivities will culminate in a grand dinosaur-themed virtual birthday bash which will have Shambu and his wife Shanti in attendance! There will be fun games, art and storytelling sessions, quiz contests, and a lot more. Do stick around to help Shambu blow out the candles on his virtual cake as well!

ABOUT SHIKARI SHAMBU

By profession, Shambu is a conservationist and a wildlife expert. Given his profession, he also dabbles in wildlife photography. Whether it is for rescuing a wild animal or catching a dangerous poacher, he is everybody’s go-to guy. The catch is Shambu is no brave heart. He is secretly petrified of animals and has no love for adventure. All he seeks is a good, fluffy pillow to sleep on and enough food to satisfy his enormous appetite. Thankfully, he is also the luckiest person alive, always managing to escape trouble through sheer good fortune!

Shambu was created by Luis Fernandes and Vasant Halbe in 1983 as Tinkle’s answer to Target Magazine’s Detective Moochwala, drawn by Ajit Ninan. The story, ‘The Legend of Shikari  Shambu’ that appeared in Tinkle Magazine #573, talks about the first time Shambu caught a tiger, completely by accident of course, after which he was christened ‘Shikari’ by onlookers. Over the years, Shambu has given up his gun and has switched to something a little more family-friendly to shoot animals with i.e. a camera! For the past two years, Shambu has been on a world tour of sorts, visiting various countries and helping out the locals with their wildlife problems. Shambu’s stories are currently scripted by various members of the Tinkle editorial team and are illustrated by Group Art Director Savio Mascarenhas. In fact, Mr. Mascarenhas has been illustrating Shambu’s adventures for more than twenty years now!
