Columbia, Maryland Jan 12, 2023 (Issuewire.com) - Virtuous Con, the annual virtual sci-fi convention founded by Award-Winning author Cerece Rennie Murphy, is back for its 3rd Annual Black History Month event, February 25 - 26, 2023 from 11 am ET - 7 pm ET.
This year’s theme “Creating Our Reality” will explore everything from how AI-generated art is shaking up the artist community to how some of the most innovative sci-fi and fantasy creators are imagining new worlds for BIPOC readers to revel in. With the addition of a special one-on-one conversation with Virtuous Con founder, CERECE RENNIE MURPHY, and ground-breaking, award-winning film director WANURI KAHIU (”Rafiki”, “Look Both Ways”, “PUMZI”), the lineup is sure to excite returning and new attendees.
New York Times Best Selling author and activist, FREDERICK JOSEPH (The Black Friend, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever The Courage to Dream) and Scholar and Pop Culture commentator, ASHLEY SMALLS, headline a stunning lineup of authors and intellectuals discussing the intersection of Black culture, social commentary, and social media and how they advance or hinder our perception of Black identity.
In addition to a special children’s book reading by Tony-Award-winning actress and Disney Legend, ANIKA NONI ROSE, our Dreaming New World’s panel featuring New York Times Best-selling author, JERRY CRAFT (New Kid, Class Act), Award-winning author, ZETTA ELLIOTT© (The Witch’s Apprentice, Dragons in a Bag, The Enchanted Bridge), New York Times Best-selling author, KAYLYNN BAYRON, (Cinderella is Dead, This Poison Heart), and critically-acclaimed author, CHRISTINE BUTLER-TAYLOR, (The Lost Tribes) will explore the critical role of representation in young adult literature and the importance of combating efforts to limit expressions of the Black experience in schools.
“For our third Black History Month convention, we really wanted to push the boundaries of our panel topics beyond what you’d typically expect from a sci-fi convention. I’m so excited about the wealth of talent and perspectives we have joining us this year!” Cerece Rennie Murphy explained. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
