Abu Zabi, United Arab Emirates Sep 22, 2021 (Issuewire.com) - Westron announced to welcome the UAE industrial strategy for freon gasses and their illegal supply. The company aims for possible action plans and enforcements.
The goal of Operation 300 billion is to improve the UAE's industrial sector and increase its contribution to the country's economic growth. It aims to boost the industrial sector's contribution to GDP from AED 130 billion to AED 300 billion by 2030.
The strategy is in line with national aims and international obligations in areas such as promoting responsible consumption and production, deploying clean energy solutions, driving industrial innovation, and achieving sustainable economic growth.
The Managing Director of Westron said, "We support any and all actions that contribute concretely to improved border controls with the goal of preventing unlawful hydrofluorocarbon imports (HFCs).” He added, “Illegally imported HFCs operate against the UAE industry, the refrigerant value chain, and end consumers' climate efforts by deliberately disrupting the UAE's F-gas regulation's implementation and intended effect.”
Arabs may be unintentionally and unknowingly aiding organized crime and hampering efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions due to the existing lack of enforcement at the UAE's borders.
The director added, “To stop illegal imports, we must all work together. We've set up an action line to report unlawful F-gas goods and trade as part of the industry's role in fixing this problem. So far, the action line has gotten a lot of traction. There were more than 200 reports of illicit actions in the first ten months alone.”
He also said that “Increased border enforcement is required to guarantee that existing UAE environmental requirements, such as the F-gas Act, are administered correctly and consistently across the UAE.”
Through a rigorous quota system, the F-gas regulation commits the industry to gradually reduce HFC consumption. While producers are committed to this phase-down, unlawful HFCs have flooded the European market, jeopardizing the UAE’s climate gains. Existing restrictions must be fully enforced before new, harsher regulations can be proposed.
