Noida, Uttar Pradesh Nov 15, 2021 (Issuewire.com) - 'Dharti Aaba': Birsa Munda, who raised his voice against the eviction of tribals from water, forest and land, was born on 15 November 1875 in Ulihatu village of Khunti district in Jharkhand. He belonged to the Munda tribe, which resides in the Chotanagpur plateau.
Birsa Munda is popularly known as 'Dharti Aaba' and is remembered as a representative event for his ulgulan (great revolt) against the British rule, zamindari system and usury moneylender system. Birsa Munda revolted from 1895 to 1900 to save tribal identity, freedom, and culture. Actually, in 1894, there was no monsoon rain in Chotanagpur. After this, there was a severe famine and epidemic in the area. During this, Birsa Munda did a lot of work among the people and united them.
Till the year 1900, there was war and confrontation between the Mundas and the British soldiers. In the year 1897, Birsa Munda along with his four hundred comrades armed with arrows and arrows attacked the Khunti police station. In 1898 also Birsa Munda clashed with the British army. Another similar conflict took place in January 1900 at Dombri mountain, When Birsa Munda was addressing a public meeting. Many women and children were also killed in this clash. About a month later, in February, he was arrested by the British from the Jamkopai forest of Chakradharpur.
He was sentenced to two years' imprisonment. He was kept in Ranchi Jail, where he died on 07 June 1900. The British had poisoned them. This great rebellious hero is worshiped like a god by a large section of the public.
