The JCIM SDA is an unprecedented award in Malaysia, granted to sustainable projects conducted by Malaysian companies and organizations (either governmental or non-governmental) that advance any of the United Nation Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs). The objective of the JCIM SDA is to raise awareness of UNSDGs to the public as well as to recognize Malaysian companies/organizations that have conducted projects that help advance these goals.

The 17 goals of UNSDGs act as a call-to-action for both the public and private sectors to help address crucial challenges such as ending poverty, ensuring access to high-quality education, and protecting natural resources.

There are 17 categories to compete for based on the UNSDGs and the “Best of the Best Project” award granted to the most outstanding and sustainable project/s that helps to advance the most goals. The nomination process of the prestigious 2020 JCIM SDA was completed following an encouraging response.

A total of 53 nominations received have been audited by honorary auditors from Chartered Accountant Australia and New Zealand members, and all the submissions have been evaluated by the panel of independent professional judges, namely Professor Datuk Dr. Denison Jayasooria, Co-Chair of Malaysian CSO SDG Alliance & Head of Secretariat, APPGM-SDG; Ms. Juanita Joseph, Head of UN RCO & Strategic Planning Multi-country Office of the UN Resident Coordinator (UN RCO) Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei Darussalam; and Mr. Fadly Bakhtiar, Programme Director of EcoKnights.

Guest of Honor, Mr. Stefan Priesner, United Nations Resident Coordinator for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam mentioned that each party, regardless of which field or industry, from the company, civil society to government either federal or local has an important role to play to achieve Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
