London, United Kingdom Sep 9, 2019 (Issuewire.com) - Veroniqué Salagean designed the first turban over 3,500 years ago in Egypt using linen and a specially made foundation to create unique masterpieces that people wore like a crown. Today as the world’s first turban designer she continues her craft by showcasing designs under her exclusive London based label, VS Turbans established since 2015.
Being the reincarnated master mind behind the first ever turban in history, Veroniqué Salagean says “I’ve always had this obsession for turbans and working with fabric from an early age that made no sense, that is till I realised through a past life regression that my craft began in a previous life during 1,000 BC”. Revealing details of her regression session with expert Nicolas Aujula, she explains “I remembered being a Persian woman that immigrated to Cairo who made bespoke turbans in the market through draping woven fibres as fabric, a foundation and at least seven pins to hold the materials together. What I created was truly unique and innovative where I was inspired to give people something special and sophisticated to wear like a crown. However, the crowns of the time were too heavy and reserved only for the pharaohs, so the turban was created to break the mould to appeal to the nobles and leaders”.
With recent controversy in fashion around turbans and so-called 'cultural appropriation' - where one culture adopts elements of another. Ms Salagean explains “The truth is that I invented the turban in 1,000 BC as a statement of style, sophistication and value. Organised religion has since destroyed my masterpiece by misrepresenting it into a wrapped cloth so-called turban. A real turban has a base around which the fabric is draped, otherwise it is just a head wrap which religious leaders adopted to wear to look distinct and cover their head as the conical shape was actively used by the military. The simple head wrap became a symbol for some faiths therefore the turban was in use before the advent of Christianity, Islam and Sikhism and has no connection to them”.
Veroniqué Salagean reveals “As a young girl I would create dolls clothes from swatches, it was effortless and I knew I had found my passion in that silence. I would practise my draping skills perfecting my sewing into an elegant masterpiece that I was proud to wear. Turbans really became my joy that my first commission came when a socialite in 2015 saw me wearing a sparkling beaded Turban - in that instant, I turned my hobby into a career and news spread by word of mouth. Since opening the doors of VS Turbans in London, I feel I've found my calling in life and provide my customers with a way to incorporate Turbans into the very essence of their daily style”
Turbans might remind you of the jet setters of the '60s but are trendier than ever as celebrities such as Beyoncé and Eva Mendes have rocked the look, making it an iconic style statement that is hip and wearable. On styling the turban with your attire, Veroniqué Salagean reveals her tips “Opt for turbans made out of light fabrics during the day whilst super extravagant silks for evening glamour. This season the turban colour palette includes latex silver, basis cream, lobster red, emerald, light calico, basis Kaffee and gold. Bring out the shade of your turban by matching it with your shoes or handbag.”
Having mastered endless ways to drape a turban, Veroniqué Salagean envisions obsessively for two days and designs each bespoke turban on the third day which gets formed from silence, feelings, music or shapes to define the 4 words provided by each client. The designer explains “Each turban I create carries a drop of my aura with it. I get inspired from within that translates sophistication and the unexplainable placed together. My greatest creation to date is ‘The Turban Mother’ otherwise known as ‘The VS Crown’, which has a train of 2 meters of crystals weighing 4 kg with over 6,000 crystal mirror beads.”
The VS Turbans range from simple drapes to the more extravagant styles that are beaded in mirror crystals to an effortless drape in silk, raffia, cashmere or leather. The turbans show a high degree of meticulousness work and love that goes into creating each one, with the collections including opulent materials such as Duchesse satin procured from Italy, ornate silks, delicate ostrich feathers and fine cotton, to produce an item of style and splendour that is guaranteed to turn heads.
