Los Angeles, California Nov 5, 2025 (Issuewire.com) - The Wine Country Chapter of Women on the Wing, a program affiliated with Pheasants Forever, is excited to announce a Women’s Learn to Shoot event on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at the Martinez Gun Club, located at 900 Waterbird Way, Martinez, California. The event will begin at 9:45 a.m. Pacific Time and offers a welcoming and educational environment for women of all experience levels to engage in the sport of shooting.
The Women’s Learn to Shoot program is designed to provide participants with a structured and supportive setting to develop or refine their shooting skills. Instruction will be led by Blake Fahmie, a nationally recognized competitive trap shooter, instructor, and coach. Blake brings extensive experience and expertise in shooting sports, ensuring that each participant receives professional guidance, practical tips, and personalized coaching. Participants will have the opportunity to shoot 25 clays, included in the registration price, with additional clays available for purchase at the club. Both 12- and 20-gauge ammunition can be purchased on-site for convenience. Shotguns are available for those who do not bring their own, and lunch will be provided.
Unlike hunting-focused programs, this event centers on sporting clays, a target-shooting activity that does not require a hunting license. Participants are able to enjoy the sport in a safe, controlled environment while learning fundamental techniques such as proper gun handling, stance, and aiming. Instruction is provided in small groups to ensure personalized attention and maximize skill development. Safety briefings, structured exercises, and ongoing supervision reinforce a safe learning environment, allowing participants to build confidence and competence in their abilities.
Beyond the technical instruction, the event is designed to bring together like-minded women who share an interest in outdoor sports, shooting, and conservation. Women on the Wing – Wine Country Chapter believes that fostering a sense of community is as important as skill development. Participants are encouraged to interact, share experiences, and build connections with peers and mentors who support and inspire one another. By creating a space where women can connect over shared interests, the chapter strengthens bonds within the community while promoting a positive, inclusive culture in outdoor sports.
The program aligns closely with the mission and vision of Women on the Wing – Wine Country Chapter. The chapter’s vision is to create a community of educated, skilled, and empowered women engaged in shooting sports, hunting, and wildlife conservation. Its mission focuses on providing safe, structured, and educational programs that foster skill development, ethical practices, and environmental stewardship while building connections among participants. Events like the Women’s Learn to Shoot program exemplify this mission by combining practical instruction with hands-on learning, mentorship opportunities, and peer engagement.
Through events such as this, Women on the Wing aims to provide participants with practical skills that extend beyond the shooting range. Instruction includes:
- Proper shotgun handling and safety techniques
- Target shooting fundamentals and accuracy training
- Techniques to improve consistency and confidence
In addition to technical instruction, the program emphasizes the values of responsibility and ethical participation in outdoor sports. Participants gain a deeper understanding of how their actions impact the environment, wildlife populations, and the broader conservation community. While sporting clays are not hunting, the principles of responsible participation, respect for the sport, and environmental stewardship are integral to the program’s philosophy.
Registration for the event is $50 per participant, covering 25 clays, instruction, and lunch. Additional clays and ammunisition can be purchased at the club for those wishing to extend their practice. This combination of instruction, practice, and engagement provides a holistic experience that encourages participants to learn, apply skills, and interact in a supportive and educational setting.
