Tucson, Arizona Mar 3, 2019 (Issuewire.com) - Sharleen Daugherty’s "She Faces Her Enemy: Learning Who "They" Are," continues her inspiring interaction with the Navajo people and culture that upends her sense of herself, like the “double doll” she describes in her first book, "Double Doll: Turning Myself Upside Down.”
Following a childhood memory of acceptance by a young Navajo friend, the author sells her lucrative East Coast consulting company in pursuit of a new business with a mission to promote American arts through the sale of Navajo weavings. Along the way, Daugherty is adopted by a Navajo matriarch, sponsors two Navajo weavers at an international trade fair in Hannover, Germany, and is befriended by a traditional Navajo medicine man who predicts that she will write about her experiences. She is introduced to the concept of hózhó, the Navajo belief in a life spent in balance and harmony—spiritually, mentally, physically and emotionally. As the community includes the author as one of their own and she embraces hózhó, or “walking in beauty,” Daugherty’s life is forever changed.
