Avoid Common Writing Mistakes

Making mistakes is what makes us human. It is hard to find an individual who has not committed a single mistake in their lifetime. Mistakes are the life lessons that teach us to do the right thing. Armed with the power to admit and acknowledge a mistake one can overcome the basic challenges that come while learning a new thing. With hard work and dedication, one can become an expert on their desired subject. Writers face many challenges while writing a new and original piece. It mostly starts with a harmless writer’s block that intensifies as time passes and especially when the deadline approaches. Some fail at this point because they did not plan well or gave up on the project. All they need is that extra motivation that can help them get back to their successful self effortlessly.

These mistakes do not always apply to just the new authors, sometimes the experienced ones are guilty of them as well. Let’s discuss the most common and major mistakes that writers need to avoid in order to turn their failure into success.

1. Over Criticize Yourself

While writing a new piece, your mind should only concentrate on weaving the string of your imagination and pen down the raw thoughts turning them into something creative. Criticizing or over doubting your work in each step will only break the flow of your writing and eventually to murder your motivation and muse. You need to hold back the inner critic in you at least the piece is over. And if you can’t and have lost your flow, just take a break and come back when you are ready.

2. Fail to Engage The Audience

The internet is filled with millions of content and it is quite hard to keep the audience engaged with your writing for long. Keep track of whether your audience is getting bored with your content. If that so, then interact with them and try to find out what things interest them the most. Try conjuring new ideas around those topics. This way they will feel more connected to you and your material, which will keep them drawn to your work.

3. Write and Edit Simultaneously

Some writers commit the mistake of writing and editing at the same time to achieve the perfect draft right away. This definitely interrupts the flow of your writing. Successful writers usually go through three drafts to achieve the perfect version of their thoughts. When the focus goes on to perfecting each sentence grammatically and in other ways, your mind fails to concentrate on the main thing that is writing a quality piece. There is no need to hurry, write without the concern of making mistakes. Fix the content on a future date.

4. Don’t Track The Progress

Whether you are a beginner or a veteran, the only way you will progress in your writing is through tracking your achievements. It can be readers’ feedback, follower numbers, money, or other positive things. These things work as great motivational tools helping you stay on the course. You can track your progress through social media easily by sharing your work there.

5. Laden The Content with Unnecessary Details

Adding irrelevant detail just to increase the word count works very badly for content. People have a very short attention span these days and if your content is piled up with information that is irrelevant to the main topic, they will simply move on to the next thing. Stop dragging the subject with details that are repetitive. Make sure the writing is brief and comprehensive to the readers of all types.

6. Publish Even You are Not Ready

Publishing your work as soon as you finish is a bad way to start your writing career. It can have a lot of mistakes which will only bring you a bad reputation in the long run. Ask a friend or a fellow writer to go through the material to look for any mistake that you may have missed. Publish your work when your target audience is the most active online, which will give you the maximum amount of exposure possible.

7. Halt The Learning Process

Learning is a significant prospect of a writer’s career. In order to maintain the quality of your writing, you need to stay updated with the latest ways and trends. If you stop learning new things at a certain point in your career, your progress will also take a seat back and you will be stuck at a standstill. To keep the flow going always thrive stay updated with newer ways and elements in your field.

8. Never Leave Your Niche

Again if you want to have growth in your career you cannot stick to the same field forever. If you write the same thing over and over again even if you have mastered the genre, your career could hit a standstill at any point. It’s better to branch out and acquire skills in other niches as well so that you can switch if your existing niche is not working out for you any time.

9. Hover Over The Point but Never Get to It

This is the most annoying thing from the point of view of the readers when an author teases them over and over again but fails to penetrate the actual point in their writing. You can create a build-up in your story to grab the attention of the readers but you must hit the closure to satisfying their cravings.

10. Give Up

Most budding writers go through this phase at some point in their writing career. Not all times will be the same. If you are facing tough writer’s block or losing motivation, you must not give up on your work. Acknowledge your problem and get ready to face it. Take a break, do the things that you like, clear up your mind, and then come back stronger than ever.
